Beaumont Chamber of Commerce Annual Meeting & Spindletop Award Presentation
Beaumont, Texas - (July 3, 2007) - The Greater Beaumont Chamber of Commerce today announced that their Annual Meeting and Spindletop Award Presentation will take place October 23, 2007. The event will be held in the Beaumont Civic Center.
The Spindletop Award was created in 1999 to recognize area businesses for outstanding corporate citizenship. Previous recipients include Exxon-Mobil in 1999, Entergy in 2000, CHRISTUS St. Elizabeth Hospital in 2001 and Conn’s in 2002, Hibernia Bank in 2003, American Valve and Hydrant in 2004, and the Beaumont Enterprise in 2006. There was no annual meeting in 2005 due to Hurricane Rita. This year’s award pays special tribute to Memorial Hermann Baptist Hospitals for their long history of support and commitment to Southeast Texas. According to C. L. "Sonny" Sherman, outgoing chairman of the Greater Beaumont Chamber of Commerce, Memorial Hermann Baptist Hospitals has made significant contributions to many areas of need in our communities. "The hospital’s legacy is one of commitment to compassionate, high quality care to the Southeast Texas community," Mr. Sherman said. "In addition, we are particularly pleased to present a special award to David Parmer, C. E. O. of Memorial Hermann Hospitals, for his personal contributions to the area," he said.
Speaker for the event will be renowned Houston physician Dr. James H. "Red" Duke, Jr. Dr. Duke is one of the most recognized television personalities in his field as host of the nationally syndicated Texas Health Reports and host of the 1986 – 1989 PBS series, Body Watch. Dr. Duke has been featured on several national news reports, health specials, and a television series. Dr. Duke is a distinguished speaker, conversant on all aspects of medicine. With his thorough knowledge of health issues and deep love for people and for life, Dr. Red. Duke carries a message you will want to hear.
